ESSAY for the process to construct the website
The Process of creating my webpageThe process I used to create the website
When planning the construction of my website I first considered my position with the Salem-Keizer School District. I work as the certified teacher in the special education classroom with the Emotional Growth Center at Sprague High School. The needs of the students and program I serve. When considering the content that I would include in my website I identified the following: Program overview:

Who We Are |
Who we are as educators:
Special programs and activities:
After considering and planning for the content of the website I considered the look that the website might contain as I perused websites from other teachers and programs I have seen before. I decided that I would want to include pictures of my classroom and other items that students would recognize from daily instruction and activities. I would want to keep the look of the site contemporary with colors that represent the school (orange, black and white) and include some logos and mascots of the school (the Sprague High School Olympians). I also considered using pictures that may symbolize the mission statement and would be relevant to the local area (as included on the first page of the site). Sprague High School Teacher Pages By looking at other teacher web pages I can consider what other teachers share with parents and students and see how their websites highlight programs and guide students to being successful in their classes. The business teacher, Mrs. Pollard’s website has many of the items that I want to include on my own so as an example I tried to have a similar overview. Selecting Weebly.com After viewing several sites including Word Press and Google Sites I decided that Weebly.com seemed to have the most user friendly interface. I began to create websites on the others listed above but I did not like the look of the site or the way I entered information. Selecting Weebly.com After viewing several sites including Word Press and Google Sites I decided that Weebly.com seemed to have the most user friendly interface. I began to create websites on the others listed above but I did not like the look of the site or the way I entered information. On the Weebly.com I like the examples that Weebly lists showing how to create a website etc. On this website I watched the video guide that’s attached to the website that includes the first steps to creating a website of your own. This video explains different aspects of how to build your website and how to use your tool bar (shown below) to create your website. This creation tool bar allows you to create a variety of items to be included as shown on the photo on the right. As I built this website I considered how I might include additional aspects of the site after I am through with the WGU task for my web profile. Esentially, I wanted to create a functional site that I will create for actual use in my class. Steps to creating a weebly website. Step one Identify the type of site you want to create by answering the guided question. Step two Select the theme that best suites the type of website you want to create. There are a bunch of templates to choose from. Step three Select the domain name such as [email protected] Step four Once you set up your domain you can then begin to change the look of the page by including titles, pictures and sections as you see fit. For me I selected the background image that people will see when they first open my page I then selected the font size, type, color and wording that would be included and the mission statement directly underneath as you see below showing an example before and after. Once you have set up your title screen etc. you can then modify your content by selecting one of the template examples or creating your own. For me, I selected a variety of templates for the pages I created and then inserted my own content. Below are photos showing the before and after. I included photographs of myself in my introduction/biography as well as photos of my instructional assistants as shown below. These photos I collected and cropped to make use of in this document as shown below. I also included original photographs of my classroom and bulletin board to create a sense of the virtual classroom as shown below. I included a page that gave people the option of contacting us and knowing where my school is located at if there was ever a visitor that must meet us for a meeting or presentation. For this the Weebly site has a way to include a map from google maps and email message link. Finally, I also included slogans mission statements and positive affirmations on my site into caption and title/margins as shown below. I inserted a hyperlink in the “About”page, that will redirect someone who is visiting my site to important information about my program. Additional hyperlinks are planned to be used before the site is totally finished. The hyperlink used is shown below and is created using the tools Weebly provides on it’s site. Once I created the edited Weebly site I saved the profile and loaded it on the redirect site page. This page will give you specific information about the visitors to the site, let you see the finished product or edit the content by the use of the edit tool bar on the side. |
